The Galapagos Islands, also known as the Archipelago of Colon, are located off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. They are composed of 13 main islands, which vary in size from 4 to 6 miles each, six medium-sized islands and more than 215 islets.
This geographical paradise even has an important role in modern history: British naturalist Charles Darwin stayed in the archipelago for five weeks observing and researching the flora and fauna of the area, which later greatly influenced his work “The Origin of Species”.
