Copacabana is located on the southern shore of Lake Titicaca, one of the highest navigable lakes in the world. A boat ride on the deep blue waters of Titicaca to discover the scenic islands and mythical Inca ruins is a must for tourists touring Bolivia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copacabana is a compact destination and you can tour it on foot. You should do it slowly, because air is scarce here, as the altitude is 3841 meters (12,602 feet). Grab breakfast at the local markets to immerse yourself in Bolivian culture in this popular pilgrim destination. Order a mate de coca (tea made from coca leaves), a cure for altitude sickness, and try Bolivian fritters that are like fried doughnuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the holy days of February, April and August, the centrally located Plaza 2 de Febrero fills with pilgrims from Bolivia and Peru. Witness the folkloric dances, processions and masses in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria. See her image in the 17th century Cathedral of the Virgin of Candelaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Copacabana Beach, try trout from the lake at one of several restaurants. Participate in a boat tour to see the ruins and villages of Isla del Sol, the cradle of the Inca dynasty, and Isla de la Luna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
